How to write an SEO-friendly blog post: a business blog guide with an example
A business blog means answering your customers' questions on your own site. Every post written honestly and regularly becomes a door that brings new visitors for months.
In short
- An SEO-friendly blog post gives a clear, complete answer to a real search question, is easy to read and is tagged correctly.
- A good business blog post focuses on one question, answers it in the first paragraph and leads the reader to the related service page.
- Google aims to surface original content written for people that shows experience and expertise, not content written only for search engines.
- There's no fixed word count; the right length is the one that fully answers the question.
- In Heyşirket, the blog, categories, scheduled publishing, RSS and the content SEO score are in the Starter plan; the writing assistant is in Professional.
The idea of “let's start a blog” gets stuck in the same place in most businesses: what do we write? The first few posts are “Our site has a new look” or “Happy New Year”, then the blog is forgotten. Nobody arrives from Google either.
In this article, using a blog post example, we explain how to write an SEO-friendly blog post, where to find topics for a business blog, how to build a post's outline and what to do after publishing. The goal isn't to write a lot, it's to write the post your customer is actually looking for.
Part 1 · Why Why does a business blog work?
Your service page answers “what do I sell”. But before getting there, your customer usually asks a question: “Is e-invoicing mandatory for me?”, “Why does my boiler lose pressure?”, “Why do gums recede?”. A blog answers these questions on your own site.
- Search traffic: Every post is a new chance to appear in a search. A good post can bring visitors for years.
- Trust: A business that answers a question clearly looks knowledgeable. When the visitor moves on to your service page, they already know you.
- Sales support: When you turn frequent customer questions into posts, you share a link instead of explaining the same thing on the phone again.
- AI answers: Assistants also build their answers from clearly written pages. A post that answers a question directly can become a source there too.
Part 2 · Topics Where do you find blog post topics?
The best topic source is the questions your customers ask you. Note down the questions you get by phone, email and WhatsApp for a week; most businesses get their first month's topics from that list.
| Source | How to use it | Example topic |
|---|---|---|
| Customer questions | Write incoming questions into a list | Does a sole trader have to switch to e-invoicing? |
| Google suggestions | Type your service and look at autocomplete | Why does boiler pressure drop |
| People also ask | Read the question box on the results page | Is teeth whitening permanent? |
| Search Console | Look at queries with impressions but no clicks | How much does business email cost |
| Seasons and calendar | Plan your busy periods ahead | What to do before the year-end close |
Once you've picked a topic, set the post's target keyword and make sure there's no other post on your site about the same thing. We cover these steps in detail in keyword research.
Part 3 · Method How to write an SEO-friendly blog post in 8 steps
A blog post from topic to publication
Pick one question
Each post should answer one question. “Everything about accounting” isn't a post, it's a book. “How should expense invoices be stored?” is a post.
Look at the search results
Type the target keyword into Google. Are the top results lists, guides or short answers? Understand the format readers expect and write a clearer, more current version.
Write the title
The title should include the target keyword and say what I'll learn: “Why does a boiler lose pressure? 5 causes and fixes”. Numbers and questions work, but avoid exaggerated promises.
Answer in the first paragraph
Don't keep the reader waiting for three paragraphs. Give the short answer in the introduction and expand below. The target keyword should appear naturally in the first paragraph.
Break it up with subheadings
Use an H2 or H3 subheading every 250 to 300 words. Write subheadings as the sub-questions a reader might ask; at least one should contain the target keyword or a close phrase.
Add your own experience
Information other sites don't have sets you apart: an example from the field, a photo you took, a mistake you often see, a detail specific to your city.
Add internal links
Link from the post to your related service page and to at least one or two other posts. That's how the reader sees the next step and Google sees how pages relate.
Complete the title, description and image
Write the SEO title and meta description, add a cover image and give images alt text that describes the topic. Details: how to write a meta description.
Part 4 · Example Blog post example: the outline of a post
Below is the outline of an example post a plumbing and heating firm might write. It's a made-up example; adapt it to your own business.
| Part | Content |
|---|---|
| SEO title | Why Does a Boiler Lose Pressure? 5 Causes and Fixes |
| Meta description | If your boiler pressure keeps dropping, the cause is usually one of these five. Checks you can do at home and when to call a technician. |
| Introduction | Short answer: the most common cause is a small leak in the system or the expansion vessel pressure. The normal pressure range and what the post covers. |
| H2: What should normal boiler pressure be? | A short section on reading the boiler gauge. |
| H2: 5 reasons boiler pressure drops | An H3 for each cause, with its symptom and a home check. |
| H2: Checks you can safely do at home | A step-by-step list with warnings. |
| H2: When to call a technician | Clear criteria and a link to the service page. |
| FAQ | Three or four short questions and answers. |
| Closing | One sentence leading to the booking or contact form. |
Part 5 · Length How long should a blog post be?
There's no magic word count for Google. The right length is the one that answers the question fully. A clear 500-word answer to a simple question beats 2,000 words that repeat the same thing. But very short posts often leave the topic shallow; on a business blog, 600 to 1,500 words is a comfortable range for most topics.
If you write about health, take extra care: Turkish Ministry of Health rules and the professional codes of the Turkish Medical Association and the Turkish Dental Association restrict advertising of health services. Don't use promises of treatment results, before-and-after images, patient testimonials, prices or words like “the best”, “painless” or “guaranteed”. Choose an informative, measured tone.
Part 6 · Consistency After publishing: rhythm and updates
The secret of a successful blog is consistency. Two good posts a month do more than ten rushed ones in a single month. Preparing several posts on the same day and scheduling them for later dates is the easiest way to keep the rhythm.
After publishing
- I supported the post with links from the related service page and older posts.
- I shared the post on my social media and in my customer newsletter.
- Two to four weeks later I checked in Search Console which searches it appears for.
- I rewrote the title and description of posts with impressions but few clicks.
- Every six months I update dates, prices and regulatory information in older posts.
A blog is only one part of digital marketing. We explain how it works together with social media, email and reviews in digital marketing for small businesses.
Part 7 · Product Blogging in the company panel
In the Heyşirket company panel, the blog is a module you install from the features list, and it's also in the free Starter plan. After installing it, you open your topics on the İçerik › Kategoriler (Content › Categories) screen and write with İçerik › Yazılar › Yeni yazı (Content › Posts › New post). If you'd like to start with a ready-made blog site, see the blog website page.
- Scheduled publishing: Prepare posts as drafts and publish them on the day you choose with the schedule-for-later option.
- SEO tab: Every post has a focus keyword, SEO title, meta description, Google preview and live content analysis. The analysis checks title and description length, keyword placement, subheadings, links, image alt text and readability.
- Information gain: The same tab has a short checklist where you mark whether the post includes a real example, your own experience, a photo you took or local context. The marks don't appear on the site; they're a reminder for you.
- Author: You can pick one of the author profiles you've set up, or the company identity, as the post's author.
- RSS and share cards: Readers can follow the blog via RSS, and shared links show the title and image properly. Share buttons and emoji reactions under posts are in the Professional plan.
In the Professional plan, SEO › Yazım asistanı (Writing assistant) scores eight measures live against your target keyword when you open a post with it, and suggests internal links, a title and a description. SEO › Kelime araştırması (Keyword research) also shows search topics your site has no content for. On health sites, content analysis also flags wording that may break advertising rules. Step-by-step in the panel: Help › Blog posts and categories.

The best source is the questions your customers ask. Google's autocomplete suggestions, the “People also ask” box and queries in Search Console are good topic sources too.
Can you write blog posts with AI?
You can use it for drafts, but before publishing you should correct the text with your own knowledge, add examples and check every claim. Google looks less at how content was produced than at whether it's helpful and reliable for people.
