Marketplace commission calculation: what's really left from a Trendyol order?

The amount paid into your account for a product sold for 1.200 TL on a marketplace and the profit you keep are not the same thing. To calculate both correctly, you need a method more than a rate table.

In short

Most businesses selling on marketplaces see their revenue clearly but guess their profit. The "commission is fifteen percent, shipping is this much, the rest is ours" calculation usually comes out wrong, because it skips VAT, withholding and the tax inside the charges. That's why marketplace commission calculation is a question of method before it's a list of rates.

We don't give a current commission rate table here, because rates vary by category, seller and campaign period, and the only reliable source is your seller panel and your contract. Instead we calculate the payout and profit of an order step by step, then give the formula for the lowest price that avoids a loss.

Part 1 · Commission What is marketplace commission calculated on?

Marketplace commission is a brokerage fee charged at a set rate on the sale amount of the product sold. The rate depends on the product category; the same seller's products in different categories can carry different rates.

The most confusing point is whether the rate includes VAT. There are two practices:

Two ways a commission rate is applied
VAT-inclusive rateVAT-exclusive rate
Example marketplacesTrendyolHepsiburada, n11
15% rate on a 1.200 TL sale1.200 × 0,15 = 180 TL (VAT included)1.200 × 0,15 = 180 TL + 20% VAT = 216 TL
VAT on the commission invoice30 TL36 TL
Commission hitting profit (VAT-exclusive)150 TL180 TL

Part 2 · Charges Which charges are there besides commission?

Commission isn't the only thing that reduces your payout. An order usually has these deductions:

The marketplace invoices you for commission, shipping and service fees, and those invoices carry 20% VAT. Because you can deduct that VAT, the profit calculation uses these charges at their VAT-exclusive amounts. Withholding, on the other hand, isn't an expense; it's tax paid in advance on your behalf.

Part 3 · Worked example Trendyol commission calculation: one order step by step

In the example below we assume a product with 20% VAT is sold for 1.200 TL on a marketplace that uses a VAT-inclusive commission rate. The rates and amounts are only there to show the method.

Payout: what lands in your account?
Sale amount (VAT included)1.200,00 TL
Commission (15%, VAT-inclusive rate)− 180,00 TL
Shipping (VAT included)− 90,00 TL
Service fee (VAT included)− 12,00 TL
Withholding (1% × 1.000 TL VAT-exclusive sale)− 10,00 TL
Estimated payout908,00 TL

The amounts are illustrative. Commission rates vary by category; take your own rate from your seller panel.

908 TL is the money paid into your account, not your profit. To find the profit, you also need to account for VAT and the cost of the product.

Order profit: what do you really keep?
Net sale (1.200 ÷ 1,20)1.000,00 TL
Product cost (purchase, VAT-exclusive)− 550,00 TL
Commission, shipping, service fee VAT-exclusive ((180 + 90 + 12) ÷ 1,20)− 235,00 TL
Pre-tax order profit215,00 TL

Withholding isn't booked as an expense; it's offset against annual tax. If you have per-order operating costs such as packaging or labour, deduct those too.

On this order, 21.5% of the VAT-exclusive sale is left as profit. If the same product goes into a campaign at 990 TL, the commission drops too, but shipping stays fixed and the margin melts quickly. So for each product, one number is enough: the break-even price.

Part 4 · Break-even How do you find the lowest price that avoids a loss?

The break-even price is the VAT-inclusive selling price at which an order makes neither profit nor loss. On a marketplace using a VAT-inclusive commission rate, for a product with 20% VAT, it's found with this formula:

Break-even price = 1.20 × (product cost + VAT-exclusive shipping + VAT-exclusive service fee) ÷ (1 − commission rate)

Break-even price for the example product
Product cost (VAT-exclusive)550,00 TL
Shipping (VAT-exclusive, 90 ÷ 1,20)75,00 TL
Service fee (VAT-exclusive, 12 ÷ 1,20)10,00 TL
Commission rate15%
1,20 × 635 ÷ 0,85896,47 TL
Every sale below this price loses money≈ 897 TL

If your product's VAT rate isn't 20%, use your own rate instead of 1.20 (e.g. 1.10 for 10%). On marketplaces that quote commission VAT-exclusive, the commission's VAT is deducted separately; the rate in the formula is the VAT-exclusive rate.

If you want a target margin, say 15% of the VAT-exclusive sale, widen the denominator: 1,20 × 635 ÷ (1 − 0,15 − 0,15) ≈ 1.089 TL. If you're not sure your cost correctly includes waste, packaging and labour, start with calculating product cost; the other side of the price decision is in pricing strategy.

Part 5 · Checks Why does the payout differ from your calculation?

If the amount the marketplace pays doesn't match your calculation by more than a few kuruş, the reason is usually one of these:

What to check when there's a difference

We explain how payouts and invoices are corrected for orders with returns in the e-commerce returns process.

Part 6 · Heyşirket How does order profitability look in Heyşirket?

In Heyşirket's pre-accounting, every e-commerce order has a Mali özet (financial summary) section. It does the calculation above per order: sale amount (VAT included), sales VAT, net sale, product cost, commission, shipping, service fee, payment / POS fee, operating cost, Hakediş (net yatacak) (payout) and withholding, then pre-tax profit and net profit.

Step by step: turning on order profitability

  1. Enter product costs

Fill in Alış fiyatı (₺, KDV hariç) (purchase price, VAT-exclusive) on the product card. Products without a cost leave the profit calculation incomplete.

  2. Define channel costs once

In an order's financial summary, click Kanal maliyetlerini girin (enter channel costs). Enter Komisyon oranı (%) (commission rate), whether the rate is VAT-inclusive, shipping, service fee, operating cost and a provision for profit tax. This setting is used for all orders on that channel.

  3. Compare estimates with actual amounts

If the channel reported a charge with the order, that amount is used directly. If not, it's calculated from your settings and marked tahmini (estimated). On marketplaces, withholding is assumed at 1% even without a setting.

  4. Match payouts to invoices

On the Hakedişler (Payouts) screen, when a marketplace payment arrives the orders' invoices are marked as collected; commission, shipping and withholding are shown on separate lines. For Trendyol, payouts are pulled regularly from the current account statement (Cari Hesap Ekstresi).

Pre-accounting is included in the Profesyonel and Premium packages. How to set up the marketplace connection is in the marketplace connection guide; Trendyol-specific details are on the Trendyol integration and Hepsiburada integration pages.

Is Trendyol commission calculated VAT-inclusive?

On Trendyol the commission rate is applied to the VAT-inclusive sale amount, and the resulting amount includes VAT. For example, a 15% rate on a 1.200 TL sale gives 180 TL commission, of which 30 TL is deductible VAT. Confirm your own rate and how it's applied in your seller panel.

Where can I find marketplace commission rates?

Current commission rates vary by category, seller and campaign period. The only reliable source is the marketplace's seller panel and your contract with it. General rate tables go out of date quickly.

What's the difference between payout and profit?

The payout is the money paid into your account after commission, shipping, service fee and withholding are deducted from the sale amount. Profit is the VAT-exclusive sale minus product cost and VAT-exclusive charges. Because the payout includes VAT and product cost, it's always higher than profit.

Is e-commerce withholding an expense in the profit calculation?

No. The 1% withheld by the marketplace is income or corporate tax paid in advance on your behalf. It reduces the payout but isn't booked as an expense; it's offset against the tax calculated on your provisional and annual returns.

How is the break-even selling price calculated?

On a marketplace using a VAT-inclusive commission rate and for a product with 20% VAT, the break-even price is 1.20 times the sum of product cost and VAT-exclusive shipping and service fee, divided by one minus the commission rate. For example, with 550 TL cost, 75 TL shipping, 10 TL service fee and 15% commission, the break-even price is about 897 TL.

Does Heyşirket calculate order profit itself?

Yes. The financial summary of each e-commerce order shows sale, VAT, product cost, commission, shipping, service fee, withholding, payout and profit on separate lines. Charges the channel doesn't report are estimated from your channel settings and marked as estimated.
