Designing your site with the customizer: logo, colors, fonts and menu
You don't have to wait for a designer to change how your site looks. The customizer shows every change in a live preview right beside it, and when you like what you see, one button puts it live.
In short
- The customizer opens full screen in a new tab from Design › Customize; settings are on the left, a live preview of your site on the right.
- Your logo, site icon, colors, fonts, menu and homepage sections are all edited from the same screen.
- Visitors don't see any changes until you click Publish, so you can experiment freely in the preview first.
- The live customizer is included in the free Starter plan too.
A website makes its first impression in a few seconds: a logo, colors and a readable font tell visitors "this is a serious business." The customizer in the Heyşirket site panel lets you set all of this without any code, seeing the result instantly. This article walks through the whole flow, from opening the customizer to publishing.
- Open — Design › Customize
- Edit — Logo, colors, fonts, menu
- Preview — Changes show instantly
- Publish — Visitors see the new look
Part 1 Opening the customizer
Log in to your site panel and choose Design › Customize from the left menu. The customizer opens full screen in a new tab, so the rest of the panel waits in the background while you work in a roomy space. Setting panels are on the left, and a live preview of your site is on the right.
Part 2 Logo and site icon
Uploading your logo
Open the Logo and site icon panel
Choose Logo and site icon from the list on the left.
Choose your logo
Pick your logo file from your computer or the media library. A horizontal logo with a transparent background looks cleanest in the top menu.
Add a site icon
The site icon is the small square image shown on the browser tab and when your site is added to a phone's home screen. Using just the symbol part of your logo as a square works well.
Part 3 Colors and fonts
In the color settings, you usually choose a main color (for buttons and links) and shades that complement it. If you have a brand color, make it your main color; if not, using the dominant color in your logo gives a consistent look. A very light main color on a light background makes text hard to read, so always check in the preview that button text is easy to read.
For fonts, instead of searching through fonts one by one, you choose from ready-made font pairings. Each pairing is made up of two fonts that work together, one for headings and one for body text:
| Pairing | Best for |
|---|---|
| Modern | Tech, startups and young brands |
| Classic | An elegant, editorial look |
| Warm | Businesses with a friendly, soft tone |
| Simple | A single family for a balanced, calm look |
| Bold | Strong headings, readable text |
| Reading | Sites focused on blogs and long-form content |
| Fastest | The device's own font; no extra files load, so pages open fastest |
Part 4 Editing the menu
The menu is how visitors find their way around your site. From the menu panel in the customizer, you can add pages to the menu, change their order and shorten their names. A good menu is short: for most small business sites, Home, Services, About, Blog and Contact are enough.
- Keep menu names to one or two words; long names wrap onto a second line on phones.
- Put your most important action (e.g. Contact or Book an appointment) at the end of the menu; that's where visitors are used to looking.
- Move rarely visited pages from the menu to the footer.
Part 5 Preview and publish
You can also reorder, show and hide your homepage sections from the same customizer; for details, see our homepage sections article. When you're happy with your changes, click Publish. Publish is a single button: every change you've made up to that point goes live on your site together.
Checklist before publishing
- Is your logo readable on both light and dark backgrounds?
- Is button text easy to read on the main color?
- Does every link in the menu go to the right page?
- Did you also check the preview at phone size?
Is the customizer paid?
No. The live customizer is included in the free Starter plan too. The page builder and all section types come with the Professional plan; for details, see the Pricing page.
Will I lose my changes if I leave without publishing?
Changes you haven't published aren't visible to visitors. To be sure, make a habit of clicking Publish when you finish working.
What if I want a completely different look?
You can choose another theme from the Design › Themes screen. If you want to design headers, footers and templates from scratch, the theme builder in the Agency plan is made for that.
Open the customizer Upload your logo, choose your color and font, and see the result in the live preview. Go to Customize
