Connecting a Cloudflare domain to your Heyşirket site
Cloudflare is the easiest way to connect a root domain. It's free, allows CNAME records at the root, and changes usually show up within minutes.
In short
- In Cloudflare, records are added on the DNS › Records page with Add record.
- Set Proxy status to DNS only (grey cloud) on CNAME records; the orange cloud blocks verification and SSL.
- Cloudflare allows CNAME records at the root (@) through automatic CNAME flattening; no extra setup is needed.
- You can move a domain registered elsewhere to Cloudflare for free by switching its nameservers; the registration stays with your current registrar.
With its free plan, Cloudflare is one of the most popular ways to host DNS. That's exactly why the domain guide in the Heyşirket panel has a dedicated Cloudflare tab: the steps are short and there's no root domain problem.
Part 1 Get your records from Heyşirket
Add your domain
In the site panel, go to Settings › Domains › Add domain. Type the domain without www; www is connected automatically and redirects to the root.
Choose the Cloudflare tab
In the guide below the records table, open the I use Cloudflare tab; the steps are shown written out for your domain.
Part 2 Add the records in Cloudflare
DNS › Records
Sign in at dash.cloudflare.com, select your domain and go to DNS › Records in the left menu.
Delete conflicting records
Delete any old A, AAAA or CNAME records with the same name (@ or www); two records can't share the same name.
Add the CNAME
Add record › Type: CNAME, Name: the "Name" from the table, Target: the target shown in the panel. Set Proxy status to DNS only (grey cloud).
Add the TXT records
For each TXT row, again use Add record › Type: TXT; copy Name and Content from the table.
Refresh the status
Save, then click Refresh status in the Heyşirket panel. Changes in Cloudflare usually show up within 1–5 minutes.
Part 3 Moving a domain from another provider to Cloudflare
If your domain is with a provider such as Natro, İsimtescil, GoDaddy or Turhost and you can't add a CNAME at the root, the cleanest solution is to move your DNS to Cloudflare. The domain's registration and renewal stay with your current registrar; only the place where DNS is managed changes.
- Add to Cloudflare — Free plan
- Check the records — Including email
- Change nameservers — In your registrar's panel
- Heyşirket records — CNAME + TXT, grey cloud
Add your domain to Cloudflare
Add your domain in your Cloudflare account; it scans and lists your existing DNS records.
Compare the list with your old panel
Make sure MX, mail and SPF/DKIM TXT records in particular came over completely; if not, add them by hand.
Change the nameservers
Enter the two nameserver addresses Cloudflare gives you in the nameserver fields at the registrar where you bought the domain. After this step, the records in your old provider's DNS panel no longer apply.
Add the Heyşirket records
Follow the steps in Part 2 above.
A nameserver change can take a few hours to propagate depending on the provider, and longer for .tr domains. Once Cloudflare shows your domain as "Active", refresh the status in the Heyşirket panel.
Is Cloudflare paid?
DNS hosting is included in the free plan; you don't need a paid plan for this.
What happens if I turn on the orange cloud?
Verification and SSL get stuck; the status may stay at Verifying or Error. Switch the CNAME record to DNS only.
Do I need to change my SSL/TLS settings?
With the grey cloud, traffic doesn't pass through Cloudflare, so SSL/TLS settings don't affect this site.
Open the Cloudflare tab Add your domain and the guide writes out the Cloudflare steps for it. Open Domains
